Mav Sports Friday Night Super D Mtn Bike Races

Keystone Resort and Maverick Sports Promotions are pleased to announce the Keystone Resort Super D Series. What is Super D? A super D race is best described as a downhill cross country race. They normally lack the technical danger packed elements of the downhill and in most cases, have some significant pedaling. A Super D is a timed event. There isn't a whole lot of climbing so you don't have to be in great shape, although it helps! Any bike will do for a Super D race, but this category of racing is where the all-mountain/trail bikes with 4, 5, and 6 inches of travel can really excel. If you're thinking about getting into racing, but you think you might lack the endurance required for a typical XC race, The Super D is a great place to start.

Ski With A Ranger

Location: Keystone

Ski with a ranger tour is an opportunity for the United States Forest Service, Friends of Dillon Ranger District, and Keystone Ski Resort to partner and provide guided interpretive tours for the purpose of highlighting the resources of the National Forest and the resort’s environmental commitments.

Volunteer Rangers guide a 45-minute ski or snowboard tour down an intermediate trail on Dercum Mountain at Keystone Ski Resort. Participants meet at the River Run Gondola at 11:00 am on Fridays from Friday, December 17, 2010 through Friday, April 1, 2011. The Ski With a Ranger tour is free to participants, but a lift ticket and at least intermediate skiing ability are required. Each tour follows the naturalist guide through several planned stops on the mountain to learn about topics of interest.

January 25-30, 2011 Sculpting Week- Sculpting begins at 11:00 a.m.on Tuesday, January 25 with a shotgun start and sculpting ends on Saturday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. The awards ceremony will be on Sunday, January 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.

January 31 - February 6, 2011 Viewing Week - (Please note that visitors are welcome at this free event anytime from January 25 to February 6- not just during viewing week.) During viewing week, the artists are done sculpting, but the sculptures are here for your viewing pleasure. Weather permitting the snow sculptures will stay up until the night of Sunday, February 6, 2011 and then they will disappear under the darkness of night- just as magically as they appeared! We say that viewing week is weather permitting because every once in a while we need to take down a sculpture that is about to fall due to warm weather. Over the past few years we have only taken down one or two sculptures due to weather so it is a pretty good bet that you will be able to see all or most of the sculptures (and without the crowds!).

Helly Hansen's Big Mountain Battle is going into its 3rd exciting season and we want to invite you to join in the fun and excitement of a little adventure on the mountain you thought you already knew. We want to take you to corners of the mountain you may not have been to for years, send you hiking up a climb you would have never thought to do, go searching in the woods for a checkpoint, get tracked in real time by our friends at Flaik GPS and you get to do it all with your buddy.

This is a team-based event, which is open to all ages/levels and allows exploration of the entire mountain! Each team of 2 must cover off all the checkpoints lifts, runs and hikes around the mountain in a 3 hour time period. Every team will be given a course map and team card (you can download them from each venue page) and again, you will all be tracked by Flaik GPS. The top three teams with the best times to complete all checkpoints, runs and hill climbs in the Novice and Advanced courses will be awarded prizing but the top team in the Advanced course will win the biggest prize of all, see below; THE GRAND PRIZE, $2000 WORTH OF HELLY HANSEN!

1. King Soopers (303-238-6486) - 3400 Youngfield Street in Lakewood west of Denver (OPEN 24 HOURS/DAY). Take Exit 264 (about 2 miles before you reach the foothills west of Denver). Once you exit, turn left and go under I-70, then turn left again at the first stop light. Go 200 yards and turn right into the parking lot for King Soopers. Tickets will be sold at the Customer Service desk. (This outlet usually has the best supply of tickets.)

2. Maison De Ski - They are conveniently located between Denver and most of the major ski areas in Colorado. Take the first Idaho Springs exit (241A) off I-70 and go about a couple of blocks. Idaho Springs is approximately 30 miles west of Denver and has many restaurants, motels, service stations.

Keystone Kidtopia's Signature Event takes place on Feb. 18-21, 2010 with the debut of the world's highest snow fort, kid-centric live concert, Radio Disney, educational and interactive activities and more! And those are the activities after you take your skis off.

Keystone’s Kidtopia Festival from February 18 - 21 is full of programming dedicated to kids. The Signature Weekend features concerts, entertainment from Radio Disney, and the debut of the world’s largest snowfort on top of Keystone’s Dercum Mountain. With a carnival of activities and entertainment, no child will complain about boredom on a ski vacation to Keystone. Located in the Buffalo Courtyard in River Run Village, the Kidtopia Headquarters Tent offers families information, a warm refuge, and plenty to do including snowflake making, cookie decorating, winter crafts, coloring, and much more. Exclusive to the Signature Weekend is a special family-friendly concert for kids and parents to dance and groove in the River Run Village! Radio Disney will be onsite to run the show and entertain everyone with their crazy costumes and wild games. The snowfort on top of Dercum Mountain is every child’s dream and Kidtopia’s premiere attraction with a grand entrance, lookout tower, drawbridge, and resident snowdragon to be debuted with a huge fireworks show. Ripperoo’s Village Parade is a true show of childhood arts and crafts skills and begins at the River Run Ski School and heads through the village with the Ski and Ride School’s Ripperoo in the lead. With noisemakers, streamers, and lots of smiles to go around, it’s a great way to end a ski day. Join us for this weekend extravaganza filled with family fun for all ages!
